Latest Snow: Getting a sun tan -- Trail Report:

Hi All, ATV riding has been great, a little ice, a little snow and a little mud, yes I said mud in February. Pray for snow or pray for rain to end this rotten winter. We are running a Weekday Bed and Sled special (Sunday through Thursday) right now for $230. (That’s when we get more snow of course). You can call us at 231 745 4101 during business hours of 8am until 10pm. We do have rooms and snowmobiles available. Take a look at the WolfCam for the snow totals.

Gift Certificates are available for ATV, Boat, Room, Snowmobile Rentals. Check out our specials and the WOLFCAM for the snow totals.

If you don’t have your sled ready, when time comes to ride, just call us, our rentals are ready to go.

We are members of the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan, Baldwin Trailriders, Irons Area Tourist Association, Wellston Area Recreation and Tourist Bureau, Benzie-Manistee Snowbirds, Lake County ORV Club and the Michigan Snowmobile Association. These are the local grooming clubs, in which we help support all of your favorite sports. When I go to an area, I always buy the new map for the season from the local snowmobile or ORV club. Trails may change and so do the maps. But I always spend my hard earned money, only with the businesses that support my sport. All those advertisers on the Snowmobile or ORV Club maps are the people, that help make those trails possible for all of us to ride. Just my two cents.

We have rooms available for this week and weekend. Gas is only $3.21 a gallon, so what are you waiting for? We are snowmobilers too, and know if there isn’t enough snow to ride, I don't want to ride in the dirt either, so if you reserve a room and there isn't enough snow to ride, just give us a call and cancel your room with no penalties. But if there is enough snow we expect you to keep your reservation. If you need a room in this area, just give us a call 231-745-4101, office hours are 8am until 10pm and if we don't have a room, we will try our best to find you a room, so call soon to get your room reserved or they will be all gone. We do have some discounts at the casino and a few local restaurants to save you even more money.

Check out the WOLFCAM for the snow totals.

. I CAN NOT SAY THIS ENOUGH, WEEKDAY RIDING IS THE BEST. SMOOTH TRAILS AND LESS TO NO TRAFFIC.

We are a pet friendly Resort, but you can’t leave your pet unattended in the room unless it’s in a cage or kennel while you are out riding. We love pets, but we love our carpet too.

Make sure you STOP when they see the groomers so they can move by. It's really dangerous to have riders keep moving when the groomers pass. Make sure you wave and show your support. Also, please stay off the ribbon so it will set up, and the trails will stay smoother longer.

Here is a list of the snowmobile trails in this area, are you ready? The Baldwin trails, (146 miles) go west to Reed City and south from here to Newaygo, Irons trails wrap around Wolf Lake and then heads north, east and west for 122 miles and connects to Cadillac and Wellston trails, Cadillac trails connect into the Irons and Wellston trails all the way to Cadillac, then south to Leroy, they groom 124 miles, Wellston trails goes west to connect to Cadillac trails and south to the Irons Trails and west to Freesoil for 68 miles and north to the, Benzie/Manistee trail system. The Pere Marquette trail connects to The Baldwin trail and all the way to Evart and up to Leroy 144 miles, the south Pere Marquette trail goes to Grand Rapids, I think about 140 miles, then north the Benzie/Manistee trail goes all the way to the Maple City another 147 miles I think. Let's total this up, 146 + 122 + 124 + 68 + 140 + 147 = 747 in groomed connecting trails just in this area alone and we are right in the middle of them. I know most of the groomer operators and their schedules, so if it’s bumpy one way, we know which way to go, to have smooth trails. I don't know about you but that's a ton of riding. Now there is more trails to get to, but that would be just over kill and this is not even counting the hundreds of miles of the two tracks and seasonal roads that you can ride. Why spent an extra $200 to $300 in fuel to get to Gaylord or the UP when we have fantastic riding right here. .

Remember that the mid week riding is the best, less to no traffic, no lines at the gas pump and you don’t have to worry so much about the crazies coming up the trail at you.

There are over 740 miles of connecting groomed trails that run through this area and surrounding areas, so why would you want to go anywhere else? Plus miles and miles of two tracks and seasonal roads. We have two bedroom lake front rooms with full kitchens, living rooms with a sofa sleeper, (sleeps 6 - $105 a night), double lake front rooms with a queen and full beds and a kitchenette and dining table and chairs (sleeps 4 - $83 a night). Double motel rooms with two double beds and a mini fridge, (sleeps 4 - $56 a night) and single motel rooms with one full bed, (sleeps 2 - $41 a night) and our large Bunk House which has two bed rooms with queen bunk beds and a queen sofa sleeper, full kitchen, full living room, a breakfast bar and a fireplace (sleeps 10 - $ 159 a night). We have something for everyone.

Visit us at www.wolflakemotel.com or call 231-745-4101, office hours are 8am until 10pm 7 days of the week. See ya soon on the trails. --- Complete Report --- More Report Links

Cadillac Area - Conditions: Poor Updated: 02 / 02 By: Cadillac Trails
Trail Report: Thursday, February 2, 2012 It saddens me to report area trail conditons are poor. The Intown Trail is impassible for the most part. The White Pine Trail is down to the blacktop in most places. The forest roads aren't the best either. Forest roads in the woods may still have an icy surface. Forest roads in the open are likely to be down to dirt and mud. Daytime temperatures for the next several days are projected to be hi-30s or lo-40. It's a sad time for snowmobiling. With more of the big, white fluffy stuff coming down our trails will be in excellent shape for some weekend fun! INTERNATIONAL ICE BRIDGE TO CANADA: The Ice Bridge is OPEN. Do ride with caution! As the warmer weather continues the ice will start the spring shift/thaw. Check with the locals before crossing. Customs officials are manning the Island offices and have posted regular hours. Before you cross make sure you have the appropriate ID paperwork. CROSS COUNTRY SKIING FANS: All trails are in good to excellent condition with this new snow. Get out and enjoy them while you can! Trail Report: Dear ATVers, Please feel free to use the snowmobile trails that are marked "ORV ROUTE" on a yearly basis as us snowmobilers sure as hell can't. We advise that you stick with 4 wheel drive machines with good mud flaps to handle the ice and mud and rain gear would be the appropriate attire to ward off the water from the low spots in the trail and the monsoons that we receive on a regular basis. Oh yeah suntan lotion is also a must when the rains do take a break, as temps tend to rise in these here parts. Welcome to the Michigan tropics!!! Greetings Sledders, Well I guess that about sums up what took place over the last week or so, hell, over the entire non-winter. It's not that we are way off in snowfall totals cause we aren't. It's that constant barrage of the Fat Lady singing that's killing us. Not sure who the SOB is that keeps scheduling her concerts but we are in cultural event overload. The good news is it's supposed to get sunny for a few more days. SAY WHAT? Yes, that's good news to me because if we are going to re-start I'd rather do it ice free, let's get back to dirt. It's not fun screwing around on a 25,000 lb ice skate. The bad news is there's nothing on the horizon. I'm thinking about a quad!! There is not much snow around town, but farther north the trails are in good shape with good late season riding conditions. Trail #9 to Pine Stump Jct/Holland Lake staging area is in good condition. Groomer Lou reported Trail #45 to the Falls is in good condition. Trail #2/9 toRexton, Trout Lake and Eppoufette is in fair to good condition over all, with a 2 to 3" base. Logging on Trail #498 North of Co. Rd. 455, be careful in these areas, as the trail may be plowed. St. Ignace - Conditions: Good Updated: 01 / 31 By: Straits Area Snowmobile Club
Trail Report: Things are certainly looking up around here. After our surprise 4-6" on Friday, we got another little bit here and there yesterday, and in a strange little band another 4" on Castle Rock Rd! Since I have the Iggy groomer parked for drag maintenance for a couple of days, Wayne brought the Brevort groomer to town last night (and learned how long that Round Lake-Castle Rock trail actually is!) He reports that things groomed up wonderfully and our trails are in good to very good condition everywhere. Yes things are a bit thin, but for the snow we have, there is no gravel showing, and things a flat, smooth and fast. There are 3 or so slush holes on West Burma, West of the hot dog stop (restrooms) all the other holes froze up, or drained over the weekend. The RR Grade is in better condition then all of last year. It is 35d today, and is forecast to be around 32 all week, but trails should hold no problem for the weekend. Unless we get some more surprise snow, we are holding the groomers until Thursday or Friday night, and will touch things up for the weekend. Still watch for ice in teh corners, and the occasional slush hole, especially on West Burma, but otherwise enjoy the trails. For the latest St. Ignace Reports Click Here --- Complete Report
Traverse City - Conditions: Good Updated: 02 / 01 By: Blue Sky Snowmobile Rentals
Trail Report: Borrowed this report from our very own GTASC. "The weather is staying cold for us and maybe some snow in the forcast this week. The trails are in fair to good shape they are ice covered with some snow on the trails and only a few spots that are showing snirt. The groomers were out over the weekend the trails groomed up very nice. The trails are very icy so be careful especially in the corners" Remember all of our groomer drivers are volunteers, and most of them are snowmobilers giving up some riding time to groom so that you have groomed trails to ride on, so if you get a chance tell them thank you or a thumbs up, it means alot to them to know they are appreciated. Make sure to pick up one of our trail maps, we have some out on the trails in mailboxes at some map board locations and at our map sponsors. Support our sponsors and when you visit one of them tell them thank you for supporting GTASC 2ND LOCATION: Blue Sky has added a 2nd location at Shanty Creek Resort. We have Brand new 600 liquid 2 person and single person SkiDoo Snowmobiles. Trail Report: SNOW, SNOW and more SNOW! Bring it on! Looks like we finally got some good snow. Currently we are getting dumped on and have been all day. Trails are in great shape and will remain so in the foreseable future. Last week there was only a little sled traffic so the trails were able to get groomed nightly and a little warm up helped pack down the trails. So get out your sled or come and get one of our brand new Ski Doo Ace 600 four stroke for the weekend. Cool temps until Next Monday then a slight warm up. Stay tuned. Traverse City - Conditions: Fair Updated: 02 / 01 By: TC WebGuide
Trail Report: Ranch Rudolph - 2/1/12 Temperatures did reach the low 40's yesterday, but the good thing is we did not get the rain they were forecasting. It's also been cold enough at night to help us maintain snow despite the warmer days. Yesterday was expected to be the warmest day of the week and back down to the 30's again today. Still a lot of snow in the woods and trails are about 75% covered, but quite slushy. If you choose to go out, be sure you talk to locals where you intend to ride for specific information about the ice depth and other factors...be aware you will be riding at your own risk. You can take a look at web cams throughout the area to check out the conditions for yourself. Find links on our website at westernup.info. --- Complete Report
