| Trail Report: 3/5/10 Ishpeming, MI Snowmobiling Update Sorry about the late report this week, I have been having some computer problems. On to the report: The weather has warmed and melted some snow and softened the trails. Roads and High traffic areas are gonna be bare or rough. Trails are still very rideable, just need to exercise some caution. Get out and ride! this may be your last chance for the year. Note: The Moose Country Snowmobile club now has a groomer parked on site in the Country Village so our spur is always the first to be groomed when they go out. So you can literally see the groomer leaving the garage to go groom the trails on a daily basis. Weather The weather has been warmer the last week and has melted some snow & softened up the trails. Conditions Fair to Good Overall. For up to the minute conditions please call toll free 866-875-4312 and ask. Conditions: Fair To Good Updated: 03 / 07 By: Halfway Lake Resort |
| Trail Report: Good Morning, The temps have been very warm and looks like those temps will hold through next week. A guest leaving this morning reported trail #8, 432 and 433 are still in good shape. Trail #9 is okay. I walked around the north end of the lake yesterday afternoon, was able to stay ontop of the snow in most places. When I did break through the snow I went down about 10" to 12". It's beautiful again today, if this keeps this could be the last of the season unless we get a snow storm soon. History tells me there is snow in the future, but who knows when. Guaranteed it will be before Memorial Day. Report copied and pasted from TASA: All trails are in good/fair condition but we have had a little meltdown due to warmer weather so please be careful and enjoy the riding. The trails in town are just in fair condition but as you go out north they get better and are in good condition. We only got about 4-6 inches of snow Friday night. Warm weather forcast for the up coming week. Mid 30's Trail #9 north is in fair condition.Watch for water on the trail when leaving the staging area near the railroad tracks, Once you get past the 3 mile staging area things get better. The base is 6-8 inches north and groomers are reporting fair conditions. Be carful on the straight away between M-123 and 3 mile staging area, mogals form there quick depending on how many sleds go over it. There are some bare spots close to town. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE IS LOGGING ON THE TRAIL ABOUT 8 MILES NORTH, SO WATCH FOR LOGGING TRUCKS Trail #45 North is in fair condition with a 6-8 inch base, but, there are 2 logging areas on it. One north, and one south, of the Skyline Trail Head. It is plowed and can be rough at times. The trail from Co. Rd. 500 to the Falls is in fair shape. Due to ice it took the groomer 3 attempts to get up the hill just south of M-123 Check the snow depth map to see all the snow that we have here at Halfway Lake. | Trail Report: Trails in town are gone along with south to Kinross and west to Brimley. Dirt is showing almost everywhere. Raco to Naomikong Trail #8 [where Paradise meets us], Trail #8 - Base 2-6 inches - Trail is in Fair to Poor Condition. More snow out in that area of our trails. Groomed Sunday. Luce County Snowmobile Trail Closed for Season Due to Warm Weather The Department of Natural Resources and Environment today announced that the Raco Snowmobile Trail from Paradise south to Silver Creek (Trail #8) and the Tahquamenon Falls trail (Trail #45) has been closed and gated for the season due to unsafe trail conditions. The current unseasonably warm weather coupled with the lack of snowfall has made this closure necessary. Snowmobilers planning to travel to the eastern Upper Peninsula are advised to check trail conditions daily as they are changing quickly with the current weather conditions. Questions concerning this closure may be directed to Newberry Fire Supervisor Paul Gaberdiel at 906-293-3293, extension 4740, or DNRE Recreation Specialist Dan Moore at 906 293 5131, extension 4045. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines. Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 - Base 0 - 1 inches - Trail is in Poor Condition. When the trail is running along roads make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road. The Downtown Trail is CLOSED. Martin Cottle, Grooming Chairman Sault Ste. | Trail Report: I just listened to the message from last nights groom on the Northern Loop. I am sorry to say, that we are about all done. I could pick and choose and tell what is ridable, and what is not, but there is no decent loops, and no getting from one destination to another without encountering difficulty. This weekend and next weeks forecast shows no signs of snow, and temps above freezing for the next 10 days. If you rode this area this year, thanks for checking out our local community, if not, then hopefully we will see you next season. Once I have the final numbers, I will post up the tally, but I think we were on track to groom about 15% of our normal mileage this season. That is not to say the trails were bad all winter, in fact they were pretty smooth and ridable for a good chunk of the winter, there was just not enough snow to make bumps to groom. This is the end to a sorry season on many levels. So this is Snow VP, signing off Trail Conditions for the 2010 season (unless we get a 100 yr snowstorm that is!)
