SPECIAL UPDATE: The DNR has given permission to some clubs to extend the official snowmobile season and trail closings to Sunday April 2, 2023. Some clubs are able to do this. Others are not due to legal obligations. Enjoy the trails that are open this Saturday and Sunday. Please honor that trails that are closed and do not trespass on them.
March 28, 2023 - 11:00 am update: - It's the last week of the season and there is snow on the trails in all of the snow belts of Northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.
If you are planning to hit the trails this week, the Western U.P. and the Keweenaw Peninsula currently has the best snow and the best prospects for snow on the trails through Friday. Some grooming is still happening and there is a base that will likely last through the week.
The snow belts of the Eastern U.P. still have snow on the trails but the base is thin in some areas and the sun this week is taking a toll on the trails. You will be able to find places to ride but grooming for the most part is done for the season in the Eastern U.P.
There is still some snow in Northern Lower Michigan, however you'll probably need to get out as soon as possible for any decent riding. We are not getting any reports of grooming and the sun is likely to melt much of the rideable snow going into Friday.
Official snowmobile trails close as the end of the day, Friday, March 31, 2023.
